Natali Fani-Gonzalez was the Vice-Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board while being the first Latinx and first Millennial to serve on the five-member Board. Natali was a huge advocate while the board worked on the Veirs Mills Corridor Master Plan and Bicycle Master Plan and she made sure no one was left behind from sharing their opinions on a plan that would impact them. She was able to conduct public outreach for hard-to-reach audiences by going around with a video camera in the community and spoke to the participants in Spanish which was the language they were most comfortable with. Moreover, she owned a consulting firm as her full-time career–quite frankly I had no idea how someone could juggle so many roles. I really wanted to hear more about the advocacy work Natali did on the Planning Board and to hear more about her business. She was the perfect person to interview because she faced similar barriers that I am going through right now.
