The word “assessment” often brings to mind midterm exams or term papers, but assessment can be a much more refined instrument. Instructors can use data gleaned from formative assessments to guide instruction and provide timely feedback within a course term, while data from summative assessments can prove useful in designing curricula. In the following articles, we suggest two ideas for assessments as well as discuss the rubric, a tool to make grading quicker, easier, and more fair.
