As a periodic addition to your course activities, ask students to reflect on some aspect of the student success formula for your course. For example, ask students to

  • Share a page of their notes so students can compare notetaking styles. This is especially helpful if you teach SQ3R or Cornell notes.
  • Link to study skills inventories and have students share and discuss their results in small groups.
  • Have students explain how they engage in regular retrieval practice. Some students prefer talking aloud, while others prefer explaining it in their heads, while others prefer writing or using flashcards.
  • Have students share their favorite flashcard app.
  • Have students use the Bb How Am I My Doing? Report.  It shows a student’s performance compared to the class average in 5 categories: Course Accesses, Time in Course, Interactions, Submissions, and Grade Center Total Score.  Add a link to the course menu so students can check their performance at any time.  Include this in a regular reflection on study habits or as part of an exam wrapper / cognitive wrapper.
