Our students rely more on digital media than on traditional print re-sources. Analyzing and understanding information through a digital/visual medium is fast becoming a literacy skill. As instructors, you can tap into this new 21st century literacy by infusing primary sources to complement your teaching and help students make connections (to his-tory, to their own experiences, or, even across disciplines) and transform coursework into life-long learning. Primary sources provide tangible links to the past and help students build personal connections to the subject or events. They foster critical thinking skills, including observation, inference, analysis, and deduction.
