- Get to know your students interests and use them to support your instruction.
- Encourage students to ask questions and challenge convention.
- Practice and reinforce the notion of active listening.
- Celebrate failure and student’s personal growth.
T – Timely
- Start and end class on time.
- Provide timely and actionable feedback.
- Be consistent with timelines and deadlines.
- Address misbehavior immediately.
O – Open
- Clearly state your expectations and practice consistency
- Communicate directly to students that you are there to help them achieve their potential in your course
- Uphold office hours and Spend time with students outside of class.
- Talk to your colleagues about your successes and challenges – we are one MC and we are all in this together!
R – Realistic
- Earn students respect by being prepared, fair, honest, and dedicated to your craft.
- Know that negative student behavior is a real and common in higher education.
- Accept that discipline is subjective – be familiar with MC policies and procedures and be consistent with their use.
- Realize that you are in control and that an immediate response is not always required.
