Student Mental Health in the Remote Learning Environment
Tuesday, August 25, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Students struggling with mental health concerns are nothing new. In fact, approximately half of community college students have a diagnosable mental illness. With the transition to remote learning, students are reporting increased instances of depression, anxiety, and stress. Add to that the concerns over a global pandemic, a societal reckoning of racial injustices, and a looming presidential election, our students are facing levels of stress that are pushing them to the breaking point.
In a presentation by Ms. Stephanie Will, we will discuss how to recognize the signs a student may be in distress, know how to respond and engage that student appropriately, and know which and when to provide the most beneficial types of referrals. Additionally, we will discuss how to care for ourselves among the recognition that we, as faculty and staff, have had our lives changed drastically as well.
