The modern classroom presents significant challenges some of which result from increasing advances in technology. Some of the devices are sources of distraction and may have negative impact on attention and learner’s memory. However, there are also certain advantages such as improved efficiency in communication and interaction between the instructor and student and efficiency in peer-to-peer engagements. Some educators contend that micro-learning strategies are effective in optimizing learning and retention. Micro-learning concept refers to instructional strategies utilizing ‘bite-sized’ segments of course content, presented in a wide range of formats and using different platforms, including social media.

During the pedagogical discussion, we will examine whether using micro-learning strategies is indeed a viable solution to the 21st century classroom challenges. We will also examine different kinds of micro-learning strategies, how you decide whether the strategies are relevant to your course, and the benefits to your students.
