Recent research demonstrates that evaluations can be influenced by factors other than teaching ability such as student/teacher characteristics and the physical environment.

During this session, we will:
• Discuss how students’ perception of the lecturer can significantly predict teaching effectiveness ratings and the validity of student evaluation of teaching.
• attempt to answer the following questions:

a. What makes an instructor effective (according to students)?
b. Discuss characteristics of an effective instructor.
c. How reliable are SET results for measuring instructor performance?
d. Do good grades predict success?
e. What is the correlation of high instructor ratings and student success?
