ELITE Pedagogical Discussion
Friday, October 27, 2017
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
TP/SS, RC 211
Facilitator:  Qing (Alison) Yu

When we talk about Open Educational Resources (OER), we are more likely to communicate the basics what OER are, how to find OER, and the benefit to students in terms of reducing the cost and increasing access to educational materials.

As educators, have you ever wondered if there is something more to be had from OER? What possibilities does open content offer for teaching and learning? How might students benefit from open resources beyond reduced costs and increased access?

In this discussion, we will focus on the concept of Open Pedagogy and explore the opportunities and possibilities open offers for teaching and learning.

Based on David Wiley’s description of open pedagogy (https://opencontent.org/blog/archives/2975), we will share resources and explore strategies for teaching and learning with the new concept of open pedagogy.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon the conclusion of this discussion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the concept and origins of open pedagogy
  • Identify open learning activities
  • Explain the potential benefits of open pedagogy to advance student success
