Using GroupMe
In online and remote courses, it is important to overcome a sense of isolation. Group Me enables students to have a lifeline of 25–30 of their classmates in the palm of their hand using their preferred mode of communication, texting.
What is GroupMe?
It’s a group texting app. All messages go through the app so no one has to reveal his or her private cell phone number. Once the professor teaches students to assist each other, students find that they have a network of 25 or 30 of their peers they can rely on. Many professors at Montgomery College have been using GroupMe with positive results. Teach
students to help each other and they become more self–sufficient. Professors can silence the notifications so that you can sleep.
“8:00 a.m. exams are difficult as it is, let alone in this remote teaching environment. I noticed two diligent students missing this morning and I texted both of them after I got everyone started on the exam. They eventually responded and arrived and completed the exam on time.”
