Chunk, Check, Clarify: Practical Tools for Reducing Cognitive Overload

October 10 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In this one-hour workshop, faculty will explore the concept of cognitive load and how it impacts student learning and retention. Participants will learn practical strategies to reduce cognitive overload by breaking course content into manageable chunks, using clear and concise instructions, and incorporating frequent check-ins to monitor understanding. The session will include examples from a variety of disciplines and provide time for faculty to revise a portion of their own course materials. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with actionable techniques to foster clearer, more effective learning experiences. This session is ideal for faculty teaching in any format—online, hybrid, or face-to-face.
