Volume 1, Issue 4 | ELITE Digest | December 2021
Welcome to the last edition of the ELITE Digest for 2021.
With Thanksgiving behind us, December is an exciting time for MC. The month gives us a reason to celebrate and reflect as we approach the winter break and new year between finals and holiday preparations.
ELITE is proud to support this week’s 2021 Faculty Showcase – ELEVATE & CELEBRATE MC in the spirit of reflection and celebration. We would like to recognize Jin Choi, Shalawn Childs, Layla Hashemi, William Dunn, Gaddis Effendi, Kathleen Hubley, and Katya Salmi for making the showcase special. All presentations and discussions highlight our community’s resilience and transformation over the past year. Space is still available for the virtual presentations, and we invite you to support your colleagues as they share their work. Register here.
As we look to the Spring semester, planning is well underway for Professional Week. We invite you to explore more than 30 virtual workshops, speed sessions, and featured presentations that have been designed with and for you as we continue our return to campus-based operations.
This month we have more MC gear than ever to give to two lucky winners of our monthly H5P challenge. To enter, all you must do is:
- complete this month’s ELITE Interactive Game (see below); and
- send us a copy of your answers by 5 pm on Friday, December 3, 2021.
Winners will be selected at random and contacted via email on December 6, 2021. For an extra chance to win, “like” the December ELITE Digest post on the Montgomery Employees Facebook page by 5 pm on December 3, 2021.
On behalf of the ELITE, we want to wish you and yours Happy Holidays. As always, we thank you for allowing us to support your professional development needs.

SNEAK PEEK: Professional Week Workshops, Speed Sessions, and Guest Speakers
Spring 2022 Professional Week begins on Tuesday, January 18, and kicks off with the Collegewide Opening meeting. Professional Week offers faculty and staff over 30 professional development opportunities provided by the College and ELITE. All ELITE-sponsored events are scheduled on Thursday, January 20, and held via Zoom.
The Art and Science of Giving
December is associated with several holidays that involve gift-giving. This issue of Multicultural Moment will present examples of gifting traditions worldwide, explore gift-giving from different perspectives, and share alternative gift ideas.
Renew and Recover
Tip 1: Take an Actual Break. For many faculty, the end of the semester means time to focus their energies away from classroom instruction to other jobs, personal business ventures, research, or taking courses.

Reconnect and Support with Psychological Safety
Now that we have fully returned to our campuses, the dynamic and stability of working from home for the past 15 months have been disrupted, and our ability to adapt is being tested again.
Personal is Pedagogical
Michele Knight sits down with Communications Faculty Dianne Cherry to discuss her professional background and how it inspires her to continue investing in her own life-long learning and sharing these insights with students.
