PR’s home, Montgomery College, and the annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival have been linked for years. Each festival brings workshops by noted local writers–this year, James Grady, Alan Cheuse, Merrill Leffler and E. Ethelbert Miller led attendees through various techniques and discussions. The 2013 honoree, Robert Olen Butler, also held a workshop called “Creating Fictional Art,” working with a select group of writers.
The annual Short Story Contest is another popular part of this yearly event, attracting a variety of excellent short fiction.
The 2013 winners are:
1st Place, Beth Konkoski, “A Drawn and Papered Heart”
2nd Place, Anne H. Oman, “The Dead Heart of Africa”
3rd Place, Sally Toner, “The Broken Ones”
As first-place winner, Beth Konkoski’s story will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Potomac Review.
