Hello all,

I hope you all had a great week. This week, I wanted to discuss some Volunteer Opportunities at Montgomery College. A great way to give back to the community is volunteer hours and it can be a great way to gain some skills and add them to your resume. I hyperlinked the document with all of the possible volunteer opportunities but today I will discuss those in person, virtual and those that simply stood out to me.

Law Enforcement Apprentice Program (L.E.A.P)

If you are interested in the learning the duties of line officers, command staff, etc. This is a great opportunity to become an intern at the Montgomery County Police Department. There are many training opportunities which include officer safety, patrol procedures, report writing including criminal and civil citations, SWAT and much more. They are still accepting applications and recommend a minimum of 8 hours per week or six months of the program! If interested, please apply at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/pol/jobs/volunteer-intern.html

Manna Food Bank

Manna Food Bank are looking for volunteers to organize and sort out perishable and nonperishable food at their Gaithersburg Warehouse. Their mission is to end hunger through food distribution, education, and advocacy. The task is physically demanding so you must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. If you would like more information, you can check out their website https://www.mannafoodbank.org. Contact katie@mannafood.org for any questions.

Translators without Borders

“Language can open doors to exhausted and hopeless people” says Roya Khoshnevis, volunteer. If you are fluent in another language, consider becoming a volunteer with TWB. You would translate all sorts of documents that may include medical texts or crisis responses. This is a virtual opportunity so you can volunteer at home. For more information and how to apply, please visit: Volunteer as a translator for Translators without Borders

There are plenty more volunteer opportunities. Please check out the link I attached for more information. I will talk to you all next week!!

Jazlleen Ramirez

¡Hola todos! My name is Jazlleen Ramirez, and I am a first-year student at Montgomery College. I am from Damascus, Maryland and I lived here since I was six years old. I will be starting my second semester of Montgomery College in Spring of 2022. I am 19 years old, and I graduated from Damascus High School in June of 2021. I am currently majoring in Nursing, but I am still considering other medical professions. I’d like to think that I am very headstrong with my opinions and views of life. Even as headstrong as I am, I am very open minded and optimistic.
Being a first-generation Latina, education has always been a priority to me. I hope to write my experiences with MC and my plans in studying medicine. I wish to inspire or motivate any other students in my similar shoes. As young as I am, I still believe I have much to offer, and I hope you all enjoy reading my blogs as I document my two cents of MC!
