By Ashley Neyra As I mentioned previously in part 1, I've been at Montgomery College…
“Montgomery College sucks”. “MC is a community college. Why would I go there if I can go to a 4-year college? ”
These were all the things I would hear in my senior year of high school. Well let me tell you why MC is great, but first, we should start this from high school.
When going through the whole college application I decided to apply to 21 schools. It was the limit on the common app which is why I didn’t apply to more; this being said please DO NOT do this lol it was stressful and a real drag. In the end, though, I got into 16 schools in 6 different states (like many others I wanted to get out of MD). I got waitlisted at 4 schools and rejected from one; unfortunately, that one school was my dream school and I would be lying if I said that, it didn’t play a role in my decision.
In the end, it really came down to cost and the level of education. For sure I could have lived out my NYC dreams but the education wouldn’t have been as good as I wanted it to be (no diss to that one school lol). Not to mention the price. One college comes to mind, I got a scholarship that would be covering over 100,000 dollars in tuition for 4 years and after doing all the math I would have still paid an average of 20,000 dollars per semester; adding up to be around 160,000 dollars all 4 years. “What the heck” was my first thought.
This led me to pick MC. It was the most reasonably priced, great education ( it was voted the best CC in Maryland) and it also gave me a second chance at my top school while making me better prepared for college life. MC has and continues to provide me with endless opportunities to learn and explore my passions. I am happy to see what I can do during my time here at MC!
