Hello all!

I hope you all are adjusting to the new semester comfortably. For me, my classes have been pretty scattered throughout the first three weeks of school. This semester is far more different than my first semester of college being that most of my classes are in campus this time. I have had the pleasure to meet my lovely professors and I am feeling very optimistic for a great semester.

A few tips that I recommend for a first semester student is to familiarize yourself with the campus at least a week before your classes begin. This will not only make you explore your campus but also diminishes the stresses of finding your classes the day of class and being late which is a huge no. You will also find other shocking uses of each building. For example, I am taking a non-credit course to become a certified medical assistant which I start the program on the 16th, I found out that the labs were in the Manakee building at the Rockville campus. I could not find it for the life of me until I spoke to a staff member and directed me to the direction of it and turns out it was a bit of a drive and wasn’t super close to other buildings. The lady told me that that building is typically used for those non-credit classes, and I found that so fascinating because I always past that building as a kid and now, I will be enrolled as a student there.

Sometimes you will find that some classes aren’t where you think they would be. In my last semester, my English class was in the science center which I found a bit confusing. Never feel afraid to ask staff your ways through the college because we have all been there where we can’t find a class. I am currently enrolled in English 102, Biology 150 and Sociology 100 and plus the medical assistant program and externship. I am so excited to tell you all more about my classes when I am further into the semester. I find MC a nurturing environment where you can see an abundance of diversity amongst students and professors. Even with the few difficulties I had last semester with being online, my professors were very kind and understanding. I feel like with all the professors I’ve had till now, you can tell when someone is passionate about the work they do, and they all share that same quality which I love to see.

Jazlleen Ramirez

¡Hola todos! My name is Jazlleen Ramirez, and I am a first-year student at Montgomery College. I am from Damascus, Maryland and I lived here since I was six years old. I will be starting my second semester of Montgomery College in Spring of 2022. I am 19 years old, and I graduated from Damascus High School in June of 2021. I am currently majoring in Nursing, but I am still considering other medical professions. I’d like to think that I am very headstrong with my opinions and views of life. Even as headstrong as I am, I am very open minded and optimistic.
Being a first-generation Latina, education has always been a priority to me. I hope to write my experiences with MC and my plans in studying medicine. I wish to inspire or motivate any other students in my similar shoes. As young as I am, I still believe I have much to offer, and I hope you all enjoy reading my blogs as I document my two cents of MC!
