Changed Priorities Ahead: Thoughts on the Future of Higher Education

Call for Submissions

During the Spring 2015 President’s Innovation Forum, Dr. MJ Bishop, Director of the Center for Academic Innovation at the University of Maryland System, explained that there are changing priorities ahead for higher education. She introduced us to the iron triangle of access, affordability, and outcomes, and she challenged us to consider how the redesign of courses and instruction instigated by educational technology leads to increased student success. Dr. Shelli Fowler, Senior Director of Networked Pedagogies and Professional Development at Virginia Tech, encouraged us to find our inner troublemakers and to be blown away by our students, to foster intellectual curiosity, and to see our students as knowledge creators.

The new Montgomery College Innovation Journal, a modestly peer reviewed, multimedia, digital journal, invites submissions (text, video, or visual images) responding to the ideas posed by Dr. Bishop and Dr. Fowler as part of the Spring 2015 President’s Innovation Forum about innovative ways we engage our students and redesign our courses using educational technology and/or engaged, student-centered pedagogy reflecting 21st century learning models. Responses should focus on a specific idea or topic inspired by the forum and should propose ideas to explore or extend the conversation about changed priorities in higher education and new models for learning in higher education.
