Hey survivors,

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” – John C. Maxwell

Someone I admire so much once said “Anyone can be a leader.” I honestly never ever knew that. I thought leadership was a position that you must be in a place of authority to be called a leader. Thanks to that someone I didn’t only know the real meaning of leadership, but I have been and still is discovering and growing the leader in me. Spring 2018 I walked into one of the rooms in the commons building as Kandi, the know it all talkative who thought she knew who she was but little did I know that was a start of a journey of a lifetime. Throughout my time going in and out of that room on a weekly basis, I discovered something new about me. I learned to build character, to not just hear but listen, to see all angles of a problem, to be considerate and much more. Needless to say by the end of that spring semester I was a different person. Not just in my character, I learned and saw true leadership through the sacrifices and teachings of this someone in the name of Mrs Kimberly Jones. Truth is she has very little idea of what she awoke in me but she is the start to a story only God knows the end.

I know a few people have written blogs about iLEAD, but most of what has been written have been by people who haven’t been a part of it. I have been a part of iLEAD and Advanced iLead. Honestly if there was Advanced Advanced iLEAD I will be the first to apply. Why? because it impacted me and leadership is continuous. This is a great leadership development opportunity offered exclusively to MC students. It doesn’t only bring out the leader in you, but it develops you as a person and connects you with people you never knew you needed. I left iLEAD with friends, not just any kind but real good friends.

Applications for spring 2020 and on are being accepted now until February 14th 2020. It starts officially on February 17th every Thursday 2pm-4pm (you think 2 hours is a lot trust me you will want more time). It is not a class, it is a program and you never get bored because our learning is through activities and much more (I can’t spill all the tea). You do not want to apply last minute as only 20 people are accepted. Believe me, I have been on the selection committee, it is competitive ( TIP BE GENUINE you didn’t hear from me). Bih Nche Kandi

Hi, my name is Kandi and I am a third semester nursing student. I am happy and excited to be a part of MC voices to not only Mc as a whole but to nursing students, foreign students without immediate family in the United States, African students, and new students. Why because that’s what makes me, I am all of that and much more.

I am a Cameroonian who has lived in the United States for almost 5years. I am a Christian and a believer in Christ and also a very optimistic person. I make and share a lot of encouraging/inspirational/motivational Videos and post on Instagram @uniquelykandi.

If you are new to MC welcome,
If you are new to the nursing program, welcome,
If you new to the United States, welcome.

I believe we will have a lot of fun sharing and learning from each other.
