Thursday quote: “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope on earth.” – Abraham Lincoln

Welcome back and thank you for reading my blog. I hope you had the chance to explore the college newspaper I talked about last week and please go and read my fellow bloggers’ and vlogggers’ posts.

I am SUPER excited to talk about this weeks’ topic!!!

Not only am I in this wonderful production I’m going to talk about but this production has become very close to my heart and I’m sure when you come and see “Perspectives on my aMeriCa” you will be able to relate to at least one of the stories that’s told. Each cast member and their curators have worked very hard to take their perspective on aMeriCa and what it means to them and turn it into a story that can both relate and teach you something.

“Perspectives on my aMeriCa” is a cabaret show where each cast member tells a story, whether it’s through a song, a dance or a monologue, about what aMeriCa means to them. The struggles, the joys, the hope and the freedom that aMeriCa has to offer. The setting of the production draws you in through the blue, purple and yellow colour scheme, highlighted by the wonderful colours our lighting designer provided.

Whether you are an immigrant, a child of an immigrant, a grandchild of an immigrant or even if you are just visiting aMeriCa, this beautiful story line will capture your heart as we move through the journey of immigrants seeking a better life.  aMeriCans fighting for equality and understanding and every person looking for hope, acceptance and a dream.

PLEASE come and see “Perspective on my aMeriCa”; you will not regret it.

One part student and one part friend, two parts explorer and four parts drama queen. When you put it all together you’d have a nice apple pie and I just made myself very hungry.

My name is Madlené and I am from South Africa. I have been privileged enough to be able to experience the American culture and get to know a variety of amazing people living here. I enjoy travelling and discovering new places but above all I love meeting new people and learning about their culture while sharing mine as well.

In my free time I enjoy reading a good book or two and of course I am addicted to Netflix (Not my fault . . . it’s those 10 seconds they give you to choose whether you want to go on with the show or stop and I seem to miss clicking the stop button every time). I love writing songs and performing in front of others. Over the weekend I like hanging out with my friends, going to see theatre performances and discovering new places to hike, eat or just to have fun.

I am majoring in Performance Theatre and want to pursue a career in Musical Theatre.

I am excited to share my college experience with you and I hope you enjoy this journey with me.

  1. Maddie, I hope the show was a smashing success. Were you a performer? I missed this but would love to see one of your performances in the future.

    1. It was a great experience and it was so educating to see what other people thought of their experience of what America means to them. I will definitely keep on posting upcoming shows.
