Hello everyone!

I am so excited to be back and blogging for the new semester. I hope you had a wonderful break and that you are ready for Spring 2017!

Like every beginning of every semester, things can always get a little crazy and we find things that are beyond our control. Getting to class on time and finding the right building are always the struggle on the first week.

My first two weeks consisted of being sick, forgetting an assignment at home and some pretty ugly bruises.

It started a week before January 23rd. I woke up not feeling 100%, and I felt a little under the weather. The runny nose and sneezing never stopped. Sometimes there are real things that laughter can’t cure. So after a couple days, I decided I needed real medicine. I went to CVS and bought Dayquil/Nyquil. My dad went to buy LOTS of ginger to make ginger tea (yuck!). You’d think i’d be better a few days after all of that but not in my case. I seem to always have long sick days. So I spent my first two weeks of this semester sniffing and coughing and feeling like an eternal patient. But as of right now, I’m feeling much, much better than before. I think I might be completely healthy again in a few days (phew)! Except maybe for the bruises on my arm I got from Volleyball. I had no idea a 50-minute PE class would send me to the security office asking for an icepack. It’s not that I’m not familiar with the sport. It’s actually my favorite sport I played growing up. But I guess I shouldn’t have waited years to hit a volleyball again!

I’m normally a careful person. I never forget where I leave my keys and I always make sure my phone is in my purse or in my hand. But today was an exception. I was going to finish my essay at the computer lab this morning when I realized I didn’t save the document in my flash drive. I didn’t have a lot of time so I had to make a decision fast whether I should write a new one or finish the one I started and print it at home. So I drove on almost empty for 20 minutes, finished and then printed my essay, and was able to come to class on time (I’m convinced this happened so I could have something interesting to write about for my blog). From now on, I will make sure I save everything on my flashdrive before leaving the house.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t have anything interesting to blog about. But when I give it time, life always offers something unexpected. All of a sudden, I have something that’s not routine in my life. A mishap. Or maybe some good news. Something that upsets me or something that makes my day. I like to incorporate both in my blogs because that’s real life and I like to be able to relate to other students. That being said, I hope everyone has had a great first two weeks of Spring semester and if you’re a little sick like I am, I do hope you feel better!

Ray Ann

My name is Ray Ann. I grew up wanting to be a lot of things. Being a lot older now, I realize you never really grow out of those dreams.

I’m 23 years old, barely 5 ft. tall and often mistaken as a high school student. But you know what they say — good things come in small packages. Despite me being a little vertically challenged, I’m a huge basketball fan. I love fast cars and fast…food. I love the color pink and my friends’ sense of humor. I aspire to be the realistic half of my favorite female fiction characters: to be bold and fearless like Nikita, witty, intelligent and fashionable like Blair Waldorf and sweet and sassy like Cher Horowitz.

Being a blogger means a lot of things. We write about anything and everything, including our own lives. We can choose to be private or be an open book. But I hope to share only meaningful and helpful things to anyone who reads my blogs. Montgomery College will always be a big part of my life as it gave me an opportunity to find myself and discover the things I love and gave me all the more reason to be myself.

Let’s believe in each other.

  1. Hi Ray Ann! I hope you’re feeling better, it is indeed the time of the year where we catch cold and stuff due to temperature being unstable these past few weeks. I really enjoyed reading your blog, I never knew MC had one.

    1. Hi Joshua! Thank you so much. Catching a cold this time of year is indeed inevitable and nobody shuns you if you’re sniffing and sneezing in class because people just kind of understand. And yes! MC has had student bloggers for a couple years now, I believe. And we are also featured on MyMC which I hope more people have checked us out through it. Thank you for reading and I hope you come back and check everyone’s blogs and vlogs 🙂 . Have a great one!

    2. Hello Joshua, I am happy to hear you read our blogs and find them enjoyable! MC is into its 6th year of student blogs; however, this year we added the exciting new component of video blogs or vlogs as well. You can locate the blogs by going to the Montgomery College home page and then click on WhyMC and scroll down to the MC Voices link. You can also find the link on Montgomery College’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/montgomerycollege
In addition, if you are an MC student, it is under the Announcement section when you log into MyMC.

I hope you will continue to follow us and please do spread the word that we have this terrific blogger program ‘MC Voices’ which is by the student, for the student, and for the potential student and too!
      Thank you!
      Jane Abraham
