Happy Wednesday, Raptors! It’s the day before payday for myself; I know many of you understand the struggle.

My humble checking account and I are here to inform you of STUDENT PERKS!
There are SO MANY discounts you can receive just by being enrolled in college. Make use of them! Companies want to reward you for your hard work (I think?), so why not take advantage of it?

Here is a (far from comprehensive) list of student discounts:
Spotify Premium: $5 a month when you register with your MC email! No ads, unlimited streaming, and you can even save the music to your phone to listen to offline!

AMC Theaters: Flashing your Student ID gets you a discount every Thursday – typically just a couple dollars off, but hey! Now you can get a drink! There’s an AMC in Gaithersburg, and a brand new location in Wheaton (with reclining seats!! Super nice!!).

Amazon Prime: Free 6 month Prime membership (free 2-day shipping, and access to Prime video and music streaming).

Students can have a FREE Washington Post e-subscription.

Qdoba on Rockville Pike has 50% off all entrée’s with a Student ID every Tuesday! And you can have a free drink every other day! Arby’s, Burger King, McDonald’s, Chipotle, Chik Fil A, Dunkin Donuts, and Subway all offer some sort of discount, whether it’s 10% or a free drink.

The website UNiDAYS can hook you up with discounts on clothes, shoes, home goods, and tech! You just sign up with your MC email! And right now, the online clothing store BooHoo is having 55% off for students!

Additionally, The Limited offers 15% off if you flash your ID in stores, Topshop offers 10% usually, with special discount periods of 20% online, and Urban Outfitters offers 10% off in stores with your ID.

There are a ton of various insurance, cellphone plans, and travel discounts, definitely worth asking about! Most insurance companies give discounts based on GPA – another incentive to do well in class!

HP and Apple both offer student discounts on their products, and Apple offers a Student payment plan for Mac products.
And for your laptop: Microsoft provides Office365, OneNote, and Imagine for completely FREE for students (just sign up with you MC email!). Norton Anti-virus offers a free 3-month trial, and up to 50% savings on anti-virus packages afterwards.

Madame Tussaud’s in DC offers a 15% student discount! The DC location is located right off the Red Line. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it! So much fun.

All RideOn routes offer free rides with with a current semester sticker on your MC ID, which can be obtained in the Financial Aid and Student Services buildings.

You also get free access to the gyms and swimming pools on campus with your Student ID.

Lastly, just ask! You may be surprised who offers discounts for college students. The way I see it, college tuition has increased exponentially. Gone are the times of paying for a semester’s tuition with a summer job. I say take full advantage of all these perks while you can!

Taylor Oland

My name is Taylor and I'm 21 years old. I work full-time and attend MC part-time. I'm working on my Associates in General Studies, but my end goal is to be involved in the mental health field.

I'm an Aquarius, my favorite animals are frogs, and I believe in aliens. I like making jewelry and doing crafty, hands-on projects, and I adore crystals and things to do with magic and nature.

I'm an intersectional feminist who is passionate about human rights - I am constantly trying to educate and challenge myself to be a better ally and activist.

I greatly enjoy horror movies and novels, and anything creepy, morbid, and macabre.

I love music: specifically rock, alternative, punk, and jazz. I can also play trumpet, guitar, and a bit of piano. It is a habit of mine to take nighttime scenic drives just to listen to music.
I also love breakfast food for any (and every) meal and I live off of excessive coffee. When I'm not at school, work, or asleep, I try to spend as much time as possible outside; I especially love exploring forests.

If you see me around the Rockville campus, feel free to say hi! I'm pretty shy at first but I'm a very friendly and kind person, I promise.

  1. This is such a great post for us broke college students. I have never heard of Qudoba and I definitely will start going there Tuesday’s for the student discount! This is such a great post for students who want to save money, even if it’s just a little bit. Any money you can save is super important.

  2. Taylor, great savings tips for all students! Some I was aware of things like the bus and gym, but what a perk to be able to get 50% off at a restaurant or clothes shopping, and a whole lot more! It would be interesting if someone kept track for a year of their total savings! One reminder: Be careful of the “6 months free” lures. I always disliked these because you had to remember to stop them or they automatically charge your credit card, sometimes for years to come or are difficult to stop. Like you say, take advantage of these discounts – you won’t get them again until you are a senior 🙂

  3. As a big fan of Spotify, I often listen to music on Spotify. Once I was a premium user on Spotify for downloading Spotify music, but I found those downloaded files cannot be played out of Spotify. Then I try to use Tunelf Spotify Music Converter to get songs from Spotify. Now I can download Spotify music for listening anywhere without a limit.
