Hi Raptors!

I hope this weekend allowed you to have some rest and has fueled you with more energy to start this week strong. As I was organizing my notes and writing important dates on my planner this weekend, I realized that there were a few things that I’ve been doing lately to stay on track. So, I thought I’d share them with you!

Use that planner: I know we’re already on the second semester of this school year, but I can often forget to use my planner sometimes. I write everything on it, even things that are not related to school, so I encourage you to do the same. Also, instead of marking off what you’ve already done, you should try highlighting it so your eyes can be drawn to the colors and notice what you haven’t done.

Keep your notes organized: I know that not all of us can follow this next tip, but I hope you can at least try it out. I started doing this for my Organic Chemistry class during the summer, and I cannot emphasize how much it’s helped me. You basically rewrite your notes from class once you get home. This helps you retain the information better because you’re seeing it once again and are able to organize it in a better way than when you were in class. I personally cannot make very organized notes while in lecture, specifically for Orgo, so this certainly has helped me a lot.

Keep your laptop organized: I truly enjoy going on to my computer and simply finding what I need to find in one place. I organize my assignments in different folders depending on the course, so try it out. It saves you so much time! But, don’t forget to back up those files as often as you can or else you may find that word document…well, lost (been there, done that).

Finish those assignments ahead of time: We are all given deadlines and they must be met, but we can certainly agree that we tend to wait until the last minute to get some things done. Although this is true, try to at least do half of those assignments so you have less to do when the due date arrives.

Visit your professor’s office hours: So many professors offer very flexible office hours so, if you have difficulty attending those hours, do speak to your professors about it because they could definitely accommodate their hours to help you. My Physics professor changed her hours because some of my classmates couldn’t attend her hours, so give it a try!

I hope these tips help you all and let me know if there’s something that you do to help you stay on track:)

¡Hola! My name is Meredith and this is my third and last year at MC. I hope to transfer to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) next fall. My goal is to become an orthodontist and reach out to countries and communities that cannot afford dental care. I hope to share my experience with you all and most importantly enjoy the process as we get through this year together.

I am now 20 years old and exactly 5 feet tall. Don’t let that fool you though; I am a small but concentrated human being. I enjoy talking to people just about anything, and I listen to a lot of music in my free time in both Spanish and English. Music is so special to me, especially if there’s meaning behind the lyrics and if it makes you move like nobody’s watching. I love going to the movies on the weekends.

When it comes to school, I am all for it. I am a low-key (maybe high-key) nerd. I get excited if I’m feeling prepared and organized when I step onto campus, almost like a super hero. Ok, maybe not to everyone. Either way, I always look forward to a new day and what’s to come with it. This doesn’t mean I will always be happy, but I will at least try to overcome what may bring me down.

I have never written a blog about myself, but I do enjoy talking so hopefully that comes in handy -fingers crossed! MC has not just taught me about the many opportunities but also being part of a diverse community might just be the best thing you could ever be part of. I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy what I have to share about MC and well, me!

  1. In schoolwork or life, organization is key! Thanks for providing great tips that all students should heed. It is not always intelligence; there is a fine line between the successful student and one who isn’t.

  2. Yes! I definitely agree with you, Jane. I always have to remind myself to follow these tips because I can definitely forget, but as I move higher in education I must learn to always stay organized:) I’m glad other students find this helpful!!
