MC Voices

Hi friends!

Are you ready for another week? You got this! Well, I really hope that you had a restful weekend, ate some good food, and got those assignments done. Talking about food…it is that time of the year at MC when more events are happening on campus which brings us all together to celebrate each other. This amazing event is the Multicultural Fair at the Takoma Park Campus. If this is your first time hearing about this event, then you must definitely check it out next month!

Culture has so many meanings, but to sum it up: it’s just a beautiful thing. I say this because over the years I’ve been able to meet people from all over the world and learn about the things that make them unique. The traditions, the art, the food, the music, etc. are just a few of the many aspects that someone’s culture could have. They are all different and beautiful in their own way; that’s why it is very important to respect each other in order to learn more about each other and share our own perspective on certain topics. With this being said, I find it so cool that our college takes the time to organize an event that specifically gives us the opportunity to do just that.

The annual Multicultural Fair is an opportunity for you to learn more about the students at MC and even share YOUR own culture! So if you would like to represent your country and/or culture, then sign up here. Know that there are only 20 tables available, so please do register as soon as possible if you are interested. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 from 11:00-2:00 PM. If you have any more questions, don’t be afraid to reach out to Kimberly Herrera at Kimberly.herrera@montgomerycollege.edu.

I hope all of you can be part of this opportunity and enjoy the awesome people you will meet as well as the delicious foods you will try! Remember to have fun, and respect each other because we’re all equally important in this world.

Sincerely,

Meredith

¡Hola! My name is Meredith and this is my third and last year at MC. I hope to transfer to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) next fall. My goal is to become an orthodontist and reach out to countries and communities that cannot afford dental care. I hope to share my experience with you all and most importantly enjoy the process as we get through this year together.

I am now 20 years old and exactly 5 feet tall. Don’t let that fool you though; I am a small but concentrated human being. I enjoy talking to people just about anything, and I listen to a lot of music in my free time in both Spanish and English. Music is so special to me, especially if there’s meaning behind the lyrics and if it makes you move like nobody’s watching. I love going to the movies on the weekends.

When it comes to school, I am all for it. I am a low-key (maybe high-key) nerd. I get excited if I’m feeling prepared and organized when I step onto campus, almost like a super hero. Ok, maybe not to everyone. Either way, I always look forward to a new day and what’s to come with it. This doesn’t mean I will always be happy, but I will at least try to overcome what may bring me down.

I have never written a blog about myself, but I do enjoy talking so hopefully that comes in handy -fingers crossed! MC has not just taught me about the many opportunities but also being part of a diverse community might just be the best thing you could ever be part of. I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy what I have to share about MC and well, me!

  1. This sounds like a fun event; however, it seems like a short time span for a fair. Should be a colorful and fun event…..and delicious I am sure. Get some photos if you go!
