As we move through the fall semester, procrastination can often take us by surprise. I know this because I’ve procrastinated myself! It becomes a bad habit if you don’t fix it in time. I was thinking about this as I got my exams back last week – I did well thank goodness. Anyways, it got me thinking about the ways I can decrease my stress level this semester. I know it is still September, but you’d be surprised at how fast time flies! So I thought of ways that can possibly help some of you feel more relaxed and confident as we get through this semester.

I think the first thing to do is analyze your current situation at school. Think about how well you’re doing so far now that you’ve gotten into a routine. This has helped me immensely because I am able to detect a bad habit sooner than later. Thinking about this may seem weird at first, but you’ll be glad you did this later on.

Once you’ve established your current school situation, the rest should be easy. Begin to make flashcards and organize your notes per chapters. This will help you review the material in smaller portions rather than cramming it on finals week.

Summarizing and making the material simpler to understand in your own words will also benefit your studying time later on. It’s not always easy to understand the terminology of the books or the professor’s PowerPoint presentations, so this is always helpful!

These are just a couple of general tips that have seemed to help me at the very beginning of a semester because it not only helps with procrastination, but it makes finals week a stress-free week.

¡Hola! My name is Meredith and this is my third and last year at MC. I hope to transfer to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) next fall. My goal is to become an orthodontist and reach out to countries and communities that cannot afford dental care. I hope to share my experience with you all and most importantly enjoy the process as we get through this year together.

I am now 20 years old and exactly 5 feet tall. Don’t let that fool you though; I am a small but concentrated human being. I enjoy talking to people just about anything, and I listen to a lot of music in my free time in both Spanish and English. Music is so special to me, especially if there’s meaning behind the lyrics and if it makes you move like nobody’s watching. I love going to the movies on the weekends.

When it comes to school, I am all for it. I am a low-key (maybe high-key) nerd. I get excited if I’m feeling prepared and organized when I step onto campus, almost like a super hero. Ok, maybe not to everyone. Either way, I always look forward to a new day and what’s to come with it. This doesn’t mean I will always be happy, but I will at least try to overcome what may bring me down.

I have never written a blog about myself, but I do enjoy talking so hopefully that comes in handy -fingers crossed! MC has not just taught me about the many opportunities but also being part of a diverse community might just be the best thing you could ever be part of. I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy what I have to share about MC and well, me!

  1. Yes, never procrastinate and be organized! I tend to have the opposite problem – I am almost OCD to get something done right away (lest I forget). And yes, I am the first in my neighborhood to have Halloween decor up 🙂 These are great tips. Best of luck this semester!
