As some of us have already taken our midterm exams, a lot of stress can also come into play. Grades definitely make us feel many things and can also affect the way we continue to get through the semester. Yes, we may feel insecure about our performance in a class or even think that we won’t end on a good note because we did really bad on a test or quiz. This happens a lot while in school, but don’t be afraid. We all fall down at some point of our lives, but we eventually have to get up!

With that in mind, I thought I could share some tips and things that you can do to slowly get back up on your feet.

  1. Reflect on that poor grade by going over your mistakes. Doing this will not only help you figure out the right answer, but it will also allow you to see how close or far you were from having the correct one.
  2. Find ways to improve your writing if that’s the case. There are many resources at school that can help you with any class that you may have.
  3. Practice, practice, practice! I can assure you that you’re better off by reviewing or practicing before you go to class.
  4. This ties a little bit to number three. Anyone can learn anything as long as you train your brain. Our brain is a muscle, so if you want it to retain information you must constantly show it what you’re learning in class. The more you expose to your brain, the faster you will learn. And feeding your brain is the best thing you could do to learn just about anything.
  5. Relax, take a deep breath, and get back up! A poor grade doesn’t define you so rather than feeling like you’ve failed in life, do something about it and think positively-it’s good for the soul. 🙂

We all go through ups and downs in school, as well as in life overall. We must learn to persevere and get over our mistakes because we will make many more as we grow. So be ready to keep on learning and not give up when something doesn’t work out! You are not alone.

As always, thank you for staying!

Meredith Cordero

¡Hola! My name is Meredith and this is my third and last year at MC. I hope to transfer to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) next fall. My goal is to become an orthodontist and reach out to countries and communities that cannot afford dental care. I hope to share my experience with you all and most importantly enjoy the process as we get through this year together.

I am now 20 years old and exactly 5 feet tall. Don’t let that fool you though; I am a small but concentrated human being. I enjoy talking to people just about anything, and I listen to a lot of music in my free time in both Spanish and English. Music is so special to me, especially if there’s meaning behind the lyrics and if it makes you move like nobody’s watching. I love going to the movies on the weekends.

When it comes to school, I am all for it. I am a low-key (maybe high-key) nerd. I get excited if I’m feeling prepared and organized when I step onto campus, almost like a super hero. Ok, maybe not to everyone. Either way, I always look forward to a new day and what’s to come with it. This doesn’t mean I will always be happy, but I will at least try to overcome what may bring me down.

I have never written a blog about myself, but I do enjoy talking so hopefully that comes in handy -fingers crossed! MC has not just taught me about the many opportunities but also being part of a diverse community might just be the best thing you could ever be part of. I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy what I have to share about MC and well, me!

  1. So true – stepping away from memorizing or studies seems to jump start our learning. I was never one who could sit hours on end to study. And yes, so frustrating at times to get back a grade to say “I should have known that!!”. As much as it hurts to have missed it, next time you will get it correctly for sure.
