Last week, our men’s basketball team made history by finishing 5th in the country at NJCAA DIII Basketball Championship Tournament. While we were enjoying our spring break, our men’s basketball team was out there getting it done. While the men were making history, the women’s basketball team managed to take 5th at the tournament. This week’s blog post is to give both of them a shout-out and some recognition for a great year.

In Loch Sheldrake, NY, Montgomery College men’s basketball team was able to accomplish the best finish in school history.

Quick Breakdown (Men’s)

MC came in as the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Their first matchup was against the defending National Champions North Lake College, 80-70. In this game, Collin Turner dropped 32 points, Ramel Davidson and Freddie Harris both finished with a double-double. National Quarter Finals.

In the matchup against Nassau Community College, they fell short. Nassau shot well from both the field and three-point line. Turner still played consistent, as he had 35 points in this game.

This matchup was the battle for 3rd, it was against Columbus State Community College. In this game, Turner scored a tournament high of 37 points. Harris had another double-double, Eli Arnold contributed 13 coming off the bench, and Afanna Offor added 14 points.

Collin Turner was selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team and averaged 34.6 points per game during the tournament.

THE RAPTORS FINISHED THEIR SEASON 26-9 AND 5TH IN THE COUNTRY AMONGST 112 DIVISON III TEAMS.

Quick Breakdown (Women’s)

MC came into the tournament as the No. 4 seeded team. Their first matchup was against Northland College, which they lost 74-58. But they bounced back defeating Rowan College, Gloucester County, in their second matchup. Alandra Bandy dropped 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. While Armonie Lomax dropped 16 points following 5 rebounds.

In the final game of the tournament, they defeated Onondaga Community College, 74-54. This game secured them the 5th place in the NJCAA DIII Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Lomax scored a game-high of 24 points.

Armonie Lomax was selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team and averaged 17.3 points per game.

THE RAPTORS FINISHED THEIR SEASON 22-7 AND 5TH IN THE COUNTRY AMONGST 100 DIVISON III TEAMS.

Hello, I am Bob Ndubuisi Okoroajuzie. Honestly speaking, Christ is the center of my life or at least I try to make him the center. If it doesn’t relate to Christ, it doesn’t relate to me. I became more fond of him through the reading of his word, the same way you’ll become more fond of me through my blogs. Some are surprised when I tell them things like this, or even comment saying, “Oh you’re one of those”. I sometimes laugh because this is my mindset, but I still have a good time. I know when to be serious and when to relax, so the key component in my life is balance. Loving, honesty, and amusing make up Bob.

I am currently majoring in Business at Montgomery College. My end goal is to graduate from UMD College Park Business school and attend law school (corporate law). I'm passionate about mentoring students and being mentored. Being mentored at a young age has truly helped shape me as a young man. Truly, being a student blogger is an honor. Sharing my experience at MC and providing information will benefit current and future students at Montgomery College.
