Hi Raptors!

We have finally reached the last week of October and even though it includes Halloween, it is that time of the year to register for classes again. I am sure that all of us are already feeling a bit stressed, but know that you can control how you deal with it. So, as we go through this together I thought I’d share a very cool event happening at Montgomery College that can help us with that.

-Monday, Oct. 29th: Mindful Mondays (Rockville Campus)

Every Monday from September 10th-December 3rd

11:30am-12:30pm

Science Center Room 459

*We all need to find a moment to release the stress that we feel throughout the semester, so be part of this great opportunity to practice mindfulness! We are halfway through the semester and I hope you are proud of yourself because you have officially made it this far. It is so important to find ways to release your stress levels and be mindful of the things that are happening around you. This doesn’t mean that your problems will go away, but it certainly means that you will find a way to properly cope with them and take a deep breath as you deal with them.

On another note, I thought I’d remind some of you first-year students about registration! For some of you who are just finishing their first semester at MC, go you! I hope you are enjoying your experience so far and wish you the best of luck. Hopefully, you have registered for classes already and if you haven’t, don’t panic. Just make sure you do it soon, so you get into the best classes of your choice. Remember to always go back to your program advising guide that way you have a better view of what the rest of the years at MC will look like for you. You can find all the different guides here.

Remember that not all of our plans will turn out exactly as we want them to, but having a plan can certainly make you feel more secure in school. Our futures can change in a second, yet that doesn’t mean that we are not allowed to think ahead and aim high. So with that said, I hope you’re able to plan for next semester and do amazing as we finish this semester strong!

You got this!!

~Meredith

¡Hola! My name is Meredith and this is my third and last year at MC. I hope to transfer to the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) next fall. My goal is to become an orthodontist and reach out to countries and communities that cannot afford dental care. I hope to share my experience with you all and most importantly enjoy the process as we get through this year together.

I am now 20 years old and exactly 5 feet tall. Don’t let that fool you though; I am a small but concentrated human being. I enjoy talking to people just about anything, and I listen to a lot of music in my free time in both Spanish and English. Music is so special to me, especially if there’s meaning behind the lyrics and if it makes you move like nobody’s watching. I love going to the movies on the weekends.

When it comes to school, I am all for it. I am a low-key (maybe high-key) nerd. I get excited if I’m feeling prepared and organized when I step onto campus, almost like a super hero. Ok, maybe not to everyone. Either way, I always look forward to a new day and what’s to come with it. This doesn’t mean I will always be happy, but I will at least try to overcome what may bring me down.

I have never written a blog about myself, but I do enjoy talking so hopefully that comes in handy -fingers crossed! MC has not just taught me about the many opportunities but also being part of a diverse community might just be the best thing you could ever be part of. I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope you enjoy what I have to share about MC and well, me!

  1. This is a terrific idea. I always thought also there should be public ‘exercise pods’ where people can gather, do 10-15 minutes of group exercise and be on their merry way feeling better than when they started. In fact, it looks like it may be catching on. Kentlands has an outdoor yoga class where the market is and RTC had weekly salsa that anyone can participate in. It also engages us with other people, which is healthy too.

  2. I didn’t even know MC offers “Mindfulness Mondays” considering Monday’s are the worst for people because it’s the beginning of a new week. This is awesome to be in a stress free environment with other students.

    1. I’m glad you know about this now girl and yes Mondays can be so stressful! I hope other students take advantage of this opportunity for sure:)
