I have had financial aid for a while now and I am still learning some important things. One thing is the importance of checking to make sure your classes are actually covered by financial aid. So, I thought I would give you the steps here:

  1. Log onto MyMC
  2. Click the “Registration” tab and then “Apply For Graduation”- don’t worry you aren’t actually applying for graduation!
  3. You will come to a page that says, “Graduation and Degree Evaluation” and towards the bottom you should see a button that says “Degree Evaluation” – click on it!
  4. Next, you will need to select your term—so if it was for this spring it would be Spring 2019.
  5. You should come to a page that says, “Degree Evaluation Record” and in the bottom-middle of that page click on “Generate New Evaluation.”
  6. Make sure you set the term to the term you are looking for—so for our example, Spring 2019, and hit generate.
  7. Now you are at your degree evaluation! Scroll through and it will tell you what course requirements you still need to meet. But, at the bottom, you will find what we are looking for.
  8. At the bottom, you will see “In Progress Courses,” “Courses not Used,” and “Attributes not Used.” Any classes in the “Courses not Used” are not eligible for financial aid.

Now if you find some of your classes are not going to be covered by financial aid, I advise you to go meet with your major advisor (which I will discuss more next week) and figure out what you can do. I hope this will help make it easier to figure out what courses are covered by financial aid!

I am a 19-year-old lifelong resident of Damascus, Maryland. I am in my 3rd semester as a part-time student at MC. I plan on getting my Associates Degree in the next couple of years and then transferring to the University of Maryland at the Universities at Shady Grove (health permitting).

MC has been my academic home for the past year and I could not be happier. I started off my collegiate experience at Salisbury University in the fall of 2015, but due to my Chronic Lyme Disease, I was forced to drop out. I thought my academic life was over, as I was too ill to handle a full course-load, but that is when I discovered the part-time option at MC. MC gave the choice to take as many, or as few classes as I wanted, and because of this, I am now back on track to getting my degree. MC also offered me disability support services to further assist me in accomplishing my dreams.

I hope that this blog can help other students like me to see that even though they may not be taking the “traditional” route towards higher education, MC offers load of opportunities that will get us where we want to go. Whether you aren’t sure where you want to end up in life, or have another obstacle, like a chronic illness or disability, you can still reach for the stars and accomplish anything they want to here at MC.
