“When there is nowhere to turn and no one to turn to, turn inward. Become acquainted with the ever-present guidance of your own soul.”

The quote was provided by Eternal Sunshine – Meditation App.

When I first started here at MC about a year and a half ago, I realized my biggest problem was not only finding my classes but the lack of social interaction with my peers. I had just transferred mid-academic year and was stuck in a completely new area with no friends. Needless to say, I was scared. Scared of starting over and most importantly scared that I would be alone.

However, in my quest to find my classes, get involved in my major and successfully locate the cafeteria I realized that making friends would be easier than I thought! You just have to know where to look!

Join A Club!

Each campus has its own unique clubs and programs to choose from. Often times, unique majors will have their own clubs to help you get connected with the industry, job opportunities, awesome workshops and most importantly help you meet new people! If you navigate through MC’s Student Life page and scroll you can find all the current club listings and even start your own!

Jobs On Campus!

If you’re currently trying to find ways to pay for tuition or need just some extra pocket change, getting a job on campus is an awesome way to network while making money! Sign up for e-jobs the free employment tool to help in your job hunt!

Join Student Blogs or Newspaper!

MC Voices and any other newspaper hosted here at MC are great ways to get involved with other talented writers and students on campus. Not only do you get writing experience and a fun opportunity to have your work published by the school, but you also get to meet the great staff who inspire you to write and gain encouragement from peers.

Tryout for one of MC’s Athletic Teams!

If you love to exercise, stay active or you are constantly in the gym, this might be a great opportunity for you. Montgomery College offers so many sports depending on the semester you tryout for. They have cheerleading, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more! Joining a team would help you meet other athletes, coaches, Raptor fans as well as endorse team building!

Out of all these options, don’t feel rushed to make friends right away. Be confident, be yourself and through this entire journey make sure you’re having fun!

Hey there! I promise finding this author’s note and stumbling across my blog page is no accident. My goal at the end of the day is to hopefully get you laughing, encouraged, or ready to make a change in your life. Now back to basics. My name is Kayla Savoy and this is my second year here at Montgomery College. Although I transfered from a different Community college halfway through my first year, I decided to make the switch and study Interior Design here on the Rockville campus! My goal after graduating is to transfer to Marymount University where I will continue my path to becoming an Interior Designer!

In my spare time you might catch me walking along campus helping other students as part of my job as a Peer Navigator or hiding out in Macklin Tower playing the Sims 4! Although Interior Design is my passion for my ocupation, I have found comfort in designing stickers and writing on my own personal blog ‘Accidentally Fluffy.’

Hobbies aside, I know what it’s like to be a college student and see each phase and go through every struggle. I understand the late nights, the “I haven’t eaten in four days”, I even understand the procrastination and overwhelming desire to give up when classes get hard. I hope you view this blog as a safe haven and a place where you can get a quick laugh and not feel judged. I hope you feel empowered enough at the end of each post to search for the opportunities offered here at MC as well!
