Today’s blog is about transferring to a four year university. March 1st is the big deadline for FALL 2018, while October 1st is the deadline for SPRING 2019. These two dates are early action deadlines by the way (deadlines vary according to schools). Hopefully this blog is of some benefit to you.

First, I would like to give a big thanks to Montgomery College. The title for this blog was derived from the program offered at MC, TRANSFERmation program. This program is a new process to determine which post-secondary institutions MC will collaborate with to create academic partnership agreements. Through this program MC has over ten transfer partnerships with four year institutions; like UMDCP, UMBC, Towson, etc.

TRANSFER:

Take this article serious because it’s full of resources, scholarship opportunity, and more.

Research, continue to research about institutions. What’s there retention rate, classroom size, etc.?

Apply for as many scholarships as possible. There’s no such thing as too much money.

Note to self: this process can be smooth if you make it.

Stop procrastinating; turn in your application on time and ask for your recommendations on time.

Feel free to talk to a counselor.

Effort! This whole process requires effort.

Respect the process. Set deadlines for yourself. The more serious you take this the better for you.

*Nobody wants to transfer and worry about things that should have been handled earlier. This may be late for those transferring after this semester. But for those who are transferring later on, take this advice serious.

Type in “transfer planning” in the search bar when you go to montgomerycollege.edu. On this website you will find many resources like advising by major, career planning, transfer scholarship opportunities, transfer partnership programs, etc. This site is a wonderful resource if you decide to transfer within the state of Maryland.

Scholarships are key to a stress free life in the pursuit of an undergraduate degree. For current students at MC, type in “outside scholarships” in the search bar at montgomerycollege.edu. Many scholarships are available, most of the deadlines are early March or April. So please start searching! Montgomery College offers numerous of scholarships many just don’t know. And I’m not talking about the Foundations Scholarships, but the Herb Block Scholarship, Creative Scholarship Program, Credit Union College Scholarship, etc. FORMULA = if you apply for a $500 scholarship and then divide the scholarship money by 10 hours (10 hours represent the amount of time used to complete and submit the application), this is $50/hr. Spending time on scholarship applications are investments.

To end this blog post, please take this time to S/O your school that you will be transferring to or hope to transfer to. I hope everyone attends the school they’ve been dreaming of.

Hello, I am Bob Ndubuisi Okoroajuzie. Honestly speaking, Christ is the center of my life or at least I try to make him the center. If it doesn’t relate to Christ, it doesn’t relate to me. I became more fond of him through the reading of his word, the same way you’ll become more fond of me through my blogs. Some are surprised when I tell them things like this, or even comment saying, “Oh you’re one of those”. I sometimes laugh because this is my mindset, but I still have a good time. I know when to be serious and when to relax, so the key component in my life is balance. Loving, honesty, and amusing make up Bob.

I am currently majoring in Business at Montgomery College. My end goal is to graduate from UMD College Park Business school and attend law school (corporate law). I'm passionate about mentoring students and being mentored. Being mentored at a young age has truly helped shape me as a young man. Truly, being a student blogger is an honor. Sharing my experience at MC and providing information will benefit current and future students at Montgomery College.

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
