https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xOA7dKSThWY Hey! Welcome to my fourth entry at MC Voices, today I will be showing…
From choosing your major, to finding the right friends and making adult decisions, college is full of opportunities we can learn lifelong lessons from. We learn as we go that good things don’t always come easy. I wanted to become a Montgomery College blogger not only because I love writing but more so because I think I have something valuable to share with my peers. I am 23 years old. I don’t know everything there is to know about being in your early 20’s let alone give advice on how everyone should live their life. However, I do know a thing or 5 about the ups and downs of being a twenty-something college student. I hope you can take something from this and get to say, “wow, i’m not the only one.”
1.) You Are Allowed To Make Mistakes.
Maybe you’ve already changed your major twice and still feel indecisive as ever. Or you failed a class and you feel like you’re never going to be successful and you’re scared you’ll let everyone down.
Everything that’s happening in your life right now will prepare you for your future. You are just accumulating now what you’ll need for the future. But your purpose will always be in the here and the now. Your mistakes will eventually turn into lessons, which then turns into passion.
And never disregard the messes in your life.
2.) Not Everyone Stays in Your Life.
You’ve probably already learned this when you were in middle/high school. But the reality is, we deal with losing people throughout our lifetime. People come and go. We lose them. We adjust to change. We learn to become flexible.
Flexibility is a trait we must learn to use to be able to be okay with the ebb and flow of life.
“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” ~ C.S. Lewis
3.) You’re Never Moving Backwards.
There are setbacks, yes. But never a step backwards. New day, new beginning. You just continue where you left off.
4.) Don’t Play The Comparison Game.
Don’t compare yourself to others. Not your sister or brother. Not your friends. Not the people from your high school. Definitely not strangers on Instagram. Someone else’s resume will always look better than yours. In fact, there are people who will be better at something than you are.
And when all you see are other people’s successes when your life feels like it’s at a standstill, just remember all the reasons why you started and the inspirations that kept you going.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
5.) Enjoy Life.
You only get to be in your 20’s once. Make it count. You will have regrets, it’s part of life. But nothing says “a successful life” more than a life fully lived.
Great words of advice from someone so young! I’d also add not to be in such a hurry. I always hear 20 something’s say “No regrets”. I don’t see how that comes from someone so young! They are just getting started and if you do & discover everything in your 20’s, there is not much to look forward to. There are many things you will not be appreciative of until you are older and wiser. Save regrets for old age and let your life unfold naturally. You are well on your way to a good life 🙂
