Stay Woke, Still Woke: Resistance, Surrender, Anticipation
“We are a choir, but we are also so much more than that. We are a family that cares for and loves one another unconditionally.”
– COTG Member
Season finale! Our stellar “COTG” take the stage in a one-of-a-kind program co-curated by the choir members themselves, speaking and singing out on matters of social justice. The spoken word and musical-style program bring thought-provoking and spirit-stirring messages of resistance, anticipation, and love in response to the news cycle. Led by award-winning educator Michele Fowlin, this impactful program features the music of Kirk Franklin, Tori Kelly, and Callie Day with special guests Francese Brooks, Anthony “Tony” Walker, Jordan Embrack, and the Katherine Smith Contemporary Dance Ensemble. One of the region’s most celebrated youth ensembles, the COTG have performed with Matthew Whitaker at the historic Lincoln Theater; at the White House (joined by Grammy-winning pop singer Sara Bareilles), Washington National Cathedral (at both the Inaugural Prayer Services for President Barack Obama and the National Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela), and many other prestigious venues. Seating at the venue is on a first-come basis.
American Sign Language interpretation is available for this performance. To reserve seating in the ASL section, please contact patronservices@WashingtonPerformingArts.org and our team will ensure your seats are allocated in the reserved section.
