Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice provides information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building and the campus library renovation in the Resource Center.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Upcoming Takoma Ave. Work: As previously updated, WSSC will be conducting work in support of the future construction of the south parking lot entrance/exit on Takoma Ave. This phase of work will repair and remove water valves in the area. Please be on the lookout for additional communications coming directly from WSSC. Please note that additional work on the parking lot entrance/exit will occur following the valve work. We will continue to provide additional information as this work moves forward.
  • Masonry: The brick installation for the building is continuing.
  • Interior Work: Work on the interior of the structure is continuing.
  • Deliveries: Materials are being delivered on-site for use within the structure. All trucks are required to follow designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.

Facilities Master Plan

Community colleges across Maryland are required by law to update their Facilities Master Plan every ten years. Montgomery College will update our plan over the coming months for the years 2023 to 2033. For more information about the process and ways to stay engaged, please visit our website.

Please provide your input at our public meetings, listed below.

  • Public Meeting #4: A hybrid meeting will be held on June 6, 2023 for the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. The event will be held virtually and in-person at Room 211 of the Commons Building. Please RSVP for the event here.

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • Abatement: Exterior asbestos abatement work to remove panels from the exterior of the building is progressing. Dumpsters are situated on the north and south ends of the site. A 4x8ft rough terrain scissor lift is being used to remove intact panels, which are then wrapped and carefully placed into dumpsters. Deliveries and collections will continue to take place daily throughout the month of May. The noise levels are expected to be similar to a car in motion. All work will be undertaken in full compliance with safety laws and regulations.
  • Demolition: Work to remove exterior windows is continuing during the month of May.
  • Interior Work: Additional work on the interior of the building is advancing.

Please visit our website for additional information on all three TP/SS construction projects. As always, you may contact us with questions at community@montgomerycollege.edu.

Thank you,
The Montgomery College Team
