Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus Projects Updates – May 12, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice provides information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building and the campus library renovation in the Resource Center.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

• Upcoming Takoma Ave. Work: WSSC will be conducting work this month in the roadway for the creation of the south parking lot entrance/exit on Takoma Ave. Truck traffic specific only to the parking lot completion and partial road closures is expected on Takoma Ave. for the duration of this work. Please be on the lookout for additional communications coming directly from WSSC. Additional work on the parking lot entrance/exit will begin in June.  
• Masonry: The brick installation for the building is progressing.
  
• Site Utilities: The backfilling of utility piping on the Fenton Street side of the structure is continuing. Pepco will begin utility work on Fenton Street on May 18, with one lane of Fenton St. unavailable for use. There will be traffic flaggers in place during this work to minimize disruption.  
• Interior Work: Work on the interior of the structure is advancing. 
• Deliveries: Materials are being delivered on-site for use within the structure. All trucks are required to follow designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia. 

• Public Meeting #3: Join us on May 25 at 5:30pm for an in-person walking tour of the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus to discuss the Facilities Master Plan and the campus’ unique needs. Please RSVP for the event here. 
• Public Meeting #4: A hybrid meeting will be held on June 6, 2023 for the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. The event will be held virtually and in-person at a location to be determined. Please stay tuned for additional information and a link to RSVP for the event.

• Abatement: Exterior asbestos abatement work is continuing to remove panels on the exterior of the building. Dumpsters are present on the north and south ends of the site. A 4×8 ft rough terrain scissor lift is being used to remove intact panels, which are then wrapped and carefully placed into dumpsters. Deliveries and collections will continue to take place daily throughout the month of May. The noise levels are expected to be similar to a car in motion. All work will be in full compliance with all safety laws and regulations.  
• Demolition: The removal of exterior windows is occurring over the month of May.
  
• Interior Work: Additional work on the interior of the building is continuing.
