Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice will continue to provide information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building construction and will now include updates regarding the HVAC rooftop replacement on Pavilions 1 and 2 (P1 and P2) and the campus library renovation in the Resource Center.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Deliveries: Materials are continuing to be delivered for installation within the structure. All trucks are required to follow designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.
  • Interior Work: Work is continuing on the interior of the steel structure, including installation of ductwork, piping, electrical conduit, and placement of metal framing for interior walls.

Pavilions 1 and 2—HVAC Replacement

  • Exterior and Interior Work: Drilling in the Pavilion 2 foundation will be completed, and piping installation through the foundation will begin. Piping and ductwork will be installed in the interior. Electric conduit and wires for the new rooftop units will also be installed.
  • Deliveries: A delivery of underground pipes that requires access from New York Avenue is expected on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. A second large delivery is expected later in the week. For these deliveries, the truck will park and access the site from New York Avenue, make its delivery, then leave the area once the delivery is complete. No trucks will traverse past the North Pavilion.
  • Tree Protection: Henley Construction submitted its Tree Protection Plan application to the City of Takoma Park on June 21, 2022, and the plan is posted on the College’s website. The plan’s primary goal is to protect a magnolia—needed work will occur six feet from this tree. A certified arborist will perform root pruning and protection fencing will be installed. Mulch matting will be placed where required by the Urban Forester.
