Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus Projects Updates – January 27, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice will continue to provide information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building construction and will now include updates regarding the HVAC rooftop replacement on Pavilions 1 and 2 (P1 and P2) and the campus library renovation in the Resource Center.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

• The project is substantially complete. Roof work will be needed later this spring; we will keep you updated.

• Site Utilities: The backfilling of utility piping on the Fenton Street side of the structure is advancing. 
• Interior Work: Work on the interior of the structure continues. 
• Deliveries: Materials are being delivered on site for use within the structure. All trucks are required to follow designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.

• Site Preparation: Utility locations have been marked in preparation for the installation of construction fencing around the site. Temporary fencing has been placed around the site. All preparations were made in accordance with construction directives and in line with the approved tree protection plan. 
• Demolition: Interior demolition may commence next week with the removal of hazardous materials, including asbestos from the interior of the building. The contractors will comply with all state and local safety requirements for such removal as we have on other projects. Later during this project, additional hazardous removal will take place, and we will provide updates as we progress toward that phase of the project.  
• Dumpster Activity: If the demolition activities move forward, a dumpster will be delivered to the North Entrance of the site. The dumpster will be removed and replaced on site daily.
