Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice provides information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building the campus library renovation in the Resource Center, and the Facilities Master Plan work for Montgomery College.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • Water Line: The creation of the new water line is complete. In the near future WSSC will be present at the project site to test the new water line. A temporary loss of water is expected during that period. The exact date of this work has not yet been identified by WSSC but we will keep you updated as we receive more information.Please also be on the lookout for additional communications coming directly from WSSC. WSSC will provide notice a minimum of two days before the work starts with further details. We are continuing to work with the City of Takoma Park and WSSC to mitigate the impact to the neighboring homes and college buildings.
  • Main Entrance: Work for the creation of the new entrance is continuing. Excavation and backfilling are complete, and concrete pouring is continuing for the development of the handicap ramp and the staircase at the main entrance.
  • Exterior Work: New exterior wall panels and storefront glass are continuing to be installed. The deliveries of panels and glass via New York Avenue are complete. Lifts are being used to assist with the installation.

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Interior Work: The work on the interior of the building continues to move forward, including the installation of carpeting, lighting, and other built-in lab fixtures like sinks and tabletops. Additionally, the HVAC system has been tested and is now in use.
  • Landscaping and Takoma Avenue: Grading and installation of landscape materials is ongoing. Large trees and smaller plants are continuing to be added into the site. Pole light fixtures are being installed. The delivery of landscaping materials via Takoma Avenue is complete. Additional deliveries will be received via New York Avenue and the internal campus roadway next to the Commons Building (Academic Way)
  • Deliveries: As previously updated, materials are being delivered on-site for use within the structure. Drivers are routinely reminded they are required to follow the designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.

Facilities Master Plan

  • Next Steps: The College’s Board of Trustees is currently scheduled to review the final draft FMP plan during its January 24 meeting. As you may recall, the proposed content of the Facilities Master Plan was presented to the Board of Trustees on November 13. A link to view the presentation from the November meeting is available on our website. If the plan is approved by the Board, it will then be submitted to the state in February. Please visit the FMP website for additional information. We will continue to update you as this process moves forward.
