Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice will continue to provide information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building construction and will now include updates regarding the HVAC rooftop replacement on Pavilions 1 and 2 (P1 and P2) and the campus library renovation in the Resource Center.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

Pavilions 1 and 2—HVAC Replacement

  • Deliveries of HVAC Units and Crane: The delivery of the crane and the units is complete. The crane will likely leave the site today, Friday, August 5. The limitations on the use of the parking meters is no longer necessary. Small trucks will continue to access the site from the Chicago Avenue entrance and will park on site.
  • Piping Installation: Underground pipe installation continues. Tree protection measures remain in place. Once the installation is completed, the disturbed topsoil will be restored using machinery known as a ‘bobcat’ and which has a backup beeper. The ground will be seeded and mulched.

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Deliveries: Materials are continuing to be delivered to the site. All trucks are required to follow designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.
  • Interior Work: Interior work on the structure is continues.
  • Saturday Work: Barton Malow will work this Saturday, August 6, beginning at 9 a.m until 2 p.m. All work will follow the requirements of the noise ordinance.
  • Noise: Mitigation strategies remain in place to conform to noise ordinance.

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • Locating Existing Water Line: Work to positively locate the existing water line may be undertaken next week. This will involve a test hole being created using a vacuum truck which will be parked on New York Avenue, at the entrance to the Resource Center. This work will not involve drilling or heavy digging and all soil will be resurfaced in full. We anticipate this activity to take half a day to complete. Any noise generated by the vacuum truck will be low level, and all activity will follow the requirements of the noise ordinance.

Thank you,
