Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Leggett Building construction project at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. We will strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

Upcoming events are listed below:

  • Demolition
Debris is continuing to be sorted and removed from Falcon Hall. Demolition of Science South continues. Scaffolding for temporary protection of Science North is being installed between Science South and Science North to support additional demolition activities of Science South.
  • Site Utilities
Layout and on-site and off-site excavation for the new incoming domestic water line from Takoma Avenue is underway, including the water line crossing work on Takoma Avenue. These activities include traffic control on Takoma Avenue, new equipment or material deliveries, and the use of dump trucks from material removal. After this work is complete, the asphalt, landscaping, and curb components of Takoma Avenue will be restored. The trench will be backfilled, and street access will be restored after 3 p.m. each day to 9 a.m. the following morning.
  • Earthwork
Signage is on order and will be installed upon receipt to notify the community that the east side of Fenton Street sidewalk is closed, and that there are construction vehicles entering and exiting the site. Barton Malow has met with the City of Takoma Park construction manager to identify locations for the signs, and the City has authorized this closure. The temporary removal of a tree adjacent to the new water line location of the campus side of Takoma Avenue took place in coordination with the City’s arborist and BMC’s arborist. The tree is expected to be reinstalled on or around March 29, weather depending, at the completion of the water line work.
  • Site Power/Lighting
New temporary perimeter site lighting is being installed. This includes site lighting poles, fixtures, and power feeds. The perimeter lighting will be inside the construction fence and not in the grove of trees along Takoma Avenue. Telephone poles will be installed using a small auger truck. Power lines from the site to these new fixtures will be activated once installation is completed.
