Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Leggett Building construction project at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. We will strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.
Upcoming events are listed below:
  • Demolition
Next week, demolition could begin in earnest. You may see lots of activity on site in preparations for this work, including set up of equipment to aid in the upcoming removal of the existing structures. As part of this effort, the contractor will be using a crane to remove the rooftop air conditioning units on Falcon Hall. Additionally, the pedestrian bridge between Science North and Science South will be removed. For more information on our noise mitigation procedures, visit the project website.
  • Utility Work
Utility installation is underway. This involves layout, saw cutting, pavement removal, and earthwork activities. These activities will include new equipment and materials deliveries, and the use of dumpsters for material removal.
  • Earthwork
Earthwork is underway. This involves salvaging and removing existing site furnishings, demolition of existing hardscape and the tennis court retaining wall, layout for the support of excavation (SOE) for the new building and the dewatering system. These activities will include new equipment and materials deliveries, and the use of dumpsters for material removal.
  • Site Logistics
Existing fencing will be relocated to install the second construction entrance along Fenton Street, which will facilitate the flow of traffic on site and help to limit the use of backup alarms. The continued use of construction fencing will provide a barrier to ensure the safety of the site.
