Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus construction projects. We strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

This notice provides information on the construction of the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Building the campus library renovation in the Resource Center, and the Facilities Master Plan work for Montgomery College.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

Library/Resource Center—Renovation

  • Weekend Work: Gilbane Construction plans to conduct work on Saturday, March 2. All work will be internal to the building and will follow the requirements of the noise ordinance.
  • Exterior Work: TThe concrete pouring work for the creation of the main entryway is continuing.
  • Deliveries: Materials for interior work activities are being delivered to the site. All drivers are continuously reminded to adhere to the construction directives, which prohibit project vehicles from proceeding down New York Avenue past Academic Way. These directives also prohibit any vehicles from accessing Takoma Avenue. Representatives from Gilbane Construction will continue to monitor Takoma Avenue and are committed to taking the appropriate action where violations occur.

HVAC Repairs

  • To continue reliable and efficient heating/cooling throughout our campus, we will be performing some important repairs on our hot and chilled water hydronic pipes. The project work area will be located in the Nunley Student Services Center green space along New York Avenue. It will be made safe with construction fencing, and all trees will be protected. Some equipment noise can be expected. This work will begin March 4 and will continue until March 27.

Leggett Building—Construction

  • Interior Work: Work  is continuing, including the final painting of the walls, cleanup of interior areas, and light fixture installation.
  • Exterior Work: The main entrance on Fenton Street, including the paving work and the canopy installation, has progressed and is nearing completion. The testing of exterior windows to ensure functionality and efficiency is continuing.
  • Landscaping and Trucks on Takoma Avenue: The installation of remaining landscape materials will continue as weather permits.

A limited number of trucks related to the landscaping work and exterior façade testing will be accessing Takoma Avenue as needed. Vehicles will proceed via New York Avenue and enter the construction site from the new Takoma Avenue parking lot entrance. Upon departure, the trucks will turn east on Takoma Avenue to New York Avenue and turn right on Fenton Street.

  • Deliveries: As previously updated, materials are being delivered on site for use within the structure. Drivers are routinely reminded they are required to follow the designated routes to and from the site and must enter and exit on Fenton Street from Philadelphia.

Please visit our website for additional information on all three TP/SS construction projects. As always, you may contact us with questions at community@montgomerycollege.edu or call the project hotline at 800-879-9879.

Thank you,
