Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Leggett Building construction project at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. We will strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

Upcoming activities are listed below:

  • Pile Drilling
Pile drilling for the support of excavation will begin in the upcoming weeks. To lessen the potential noise and vibration impacts, BMC will drill piles, instead of drive piles (which is standard practice in many construction projects). This work will include heavy machinery and equipment, some of which has arrived on the project site.
  • Site Utilities
Work on the sanitary piping and structure installation continues to progress, concurrent with the ongoing storm drain work. These activities include the use of dumpsters for material removal.
  • Earthwork
The dewatering system installation is complete and water is now being pumped to the settlement tank. Mobilization of earthwork equipment and sheeting and shoring equipment has begun and will continue over the next few weeks.
  • Routine System Maintenance
The dewatering pump that has been installed to support construction activities will require regular maintenance, such as cleaning the filter and confirming the system is operating properly. This means that one crew member will visit the site one time in the early evening each weekday, and three times during the day on Saturday and Sunday, outside of the posted working hours. Visits are expected to generate minimal noise and last no more than one hour.

Thank you,
