Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Leggett Building construction project at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. We will strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.

Upcoming events are listed below:

  • Demolition
Debris removal from the Falcon Hall and Science South structures continues to progress. The Falcon Hall foundation walls and structure demolition continues to progress.
  • Site Utilities
Final backfill at the Commons building and Takoma Avenue is being performed and likely will be completed by next week. Onsite stormwater piping and structure installation continues to progress. This week, onsite sanitary piping and structure installation will begin. These activities will continue to include material deliveries, as well as the use of dumpsters for material removal. Project vehicles will continue to use Fenton Street to route to and from the site. Comcast is installing the temporary internet service to BMC’s field office according to their procedures. Some activity regarding installation around the field office will continue to occur near the Fenton Street construction entrance as well as in and around Takoma Avenue. Comcast will restore the area following completion of their work.
  • Site Power/Lighting
The installation of power feeds to temporary site lighting is near completion and should be finalized in the next week.
  • Trees
A temporary fence has been installed at the corner of Takoma Avenue and Fenton Street as added tree protection to the grove of trees. These trees have also received a root pruning and a bio-stimulant treatment to ensure their health. BMC’s arborist has reviewed and approved these mitigation protocols.
  • Project Update Forum
You are invited to a Project Update Forum for the Leggett Math and Science Building on Tuesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. We will be providing an update on the project including the start of foundation work, and discussing proposed construction traffic routes. This meeting will allow all participants to join on camera and ask questions.
