Falcon Hall Demolition Update

As part of the planned deconstruction of Falcon Hall, the removal of rooftop air handling units started Wednesday, February 24. At approximately 8 a.m., a portion of the roof of Falcon Hall collapsed on itself. During the event, one member of the construction team received a minor scrape. There were no other injuries reported, and there was no requirement for emergency services.

The incident has no impact on health and safety of individuals on site, on campus, or surrounding areas. Neither existing utility lines nor surrounding structures were damaged. Removal of asbestos and other hazardous materials had been completed in the fall of 2020, so there is no concern related to air quality.

The specific cause of the partial roof collapse is being explored. Montgomery College has notified City of Takoma Park officials and will continue to share more information with those officials as it is obtained. Safety remains the top priority for the project moving forward. The College will continue to share updates publicly as they become available.
