Dear Neighbors,
Thank you for your interest in the Leggett Building construction project at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. We will strive to keep our neighbors informed about significant construction events with this weekly email notification.
Upcoming events are listed below:
- Demolition
This week, demolition is underway. The pedestrian bridge between Science North and Science South and the Falcon Hall rooftop air handling units were removed. You will continue to see activity on site as machines are positioned to begin deconstructing Falcon Hall. As always, demolition procedures will be carried out in accordance with approved plans including the Noise Suppression plan and permits. For more information on our noise mitigation procedures, visit the project website. - Utility Work
Contractors continue their work to remove existing utility lines and install new utility infrastructure. This involves layout, saw cutting, pavement removal, and earthwork activities. New equipment and materials will be delivered to the site, and dumpsters will be used for material removal. - Earthwork
Earthwork will continue this week. This involves salvaging and removing existing site furnishing, demolition of existing hardscape and the tennis court retaining wall, layout for the support of excavation for the new building and the dewatering system. Contractors will be working to install the new stabilized construction entrance on Fenton Street and place a new Science North concrete generator pad. Similar to utility work, these materials will include the delivery of new equipment and materials to the site, and the use of dumpsters for material removal. - Site Logistics
Existing fencing will be relocated to install the second construction entrance along Fenton Street, which will facilitate the flow of traffic on site and help to limit the use of backup alarms. The continued use of construction fencing will provide a barrier to ensure the safety of the site.
