ALEX CASTILLOAlex grew up in Montgomery County. He is the oldest of four and is a proud first-generation college graduate. He attended Montgomery College and obtained his associate’s degree in general studies and then transferred to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, at the Universities at Shady Grove. Raptor to Retriever (R2R) helped Alex transfer smoothly from Montgomery College to UMBC where he earned his bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in social work.. He previously worked for a Virginia based program called Opportunity Scholars, featuring a similar model to ACES. Alex understands how challenging it can be for a first-generation college student to figure out where to start and what steps to take to succeed academically and professionally. His passion is to help educate students and families and inform them of the available resources in their community. Alex states that the support of his family, counselors, and mentors immensely contributed to his academic success in helping guide and prepare him for the workforce. He is a firm believer that if he could do it, other students can too.
