The Personal is Pedagogical: Pushing Borders in Pursuit of Growth, An interview with Professor of Nursing, Geetha Kada

The Hub is pleased to add to its repertoire of podcasts from MC staff and faculty on how their personal experience has influenced their work at MC, whether it be in the classroom or in the way they relate to students. This is a series of podcasts that will spotlight various MC staff/faculty with respect to their personal philosophies on student success.

For this month’s Pedagogical is Personal Podcast, we spotlight Nursing Professor Geetha Kada from the TPSS campus.

Professor Kada believes in the strength of education in bettering society. She had a very supportive father who told her that education is the one thing that people can never take away from her. She also had a professor who took the time to really understand her potential, which she believes all educators should do. To engage her students, Professor Kada makes use of simulation patients, especially actors who are trained to express their thoughts and emotions when engaging with the student nurses. She stresses the importance of learning for future clinical practice rather than merely doing well on the test, although she understands that many students must balance multiple demands. As a 20-year veteran instructor, Professor Kada has advice for new faculty: not everyone may be born to be a good teacher; however, they can improve their skills through practice and effort.
