Every spring, the MC and PGCC Hillman students have been graciously invited to the Hotel at Arundel, a boutique hotel built and owned by Southern Management Corporation, the successful real estate company owned by David Hillman.
In fact, Southern Management Corporation is the largest privately owned residential property-management company in the Mid-Atlantic region. With 75 apartment communities and approximately 25,000 apartment homes, Southern owns communities, office centers, hotels and conference centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area. Southern’s latest property, the Hotel at College Park, opened just this year and graces the University of Maryland Campus with hotel and conference space as well as many eating and other business establishments.
The visit that the Hillman students make is eye-opening in that members of the hotel staff–from the marketing director to the head chef to the facilities director and more–each address the students explaining how the entrepreneurial vision and model that David Hillman has instilled in all of his businesses empowers them to reach higher and to know that they are both important and valued by the owner, Mr. Hillman.
Likewise, the students are treated like treasured guests, with ample opportunity to meet one-on-one or in small groups with critical staff members, to dine on the wonderful cuisine prepared by the head chef, and to engage in a “behind the scenes” tour of the facility–from the corporate offices to the bustling kitchen–as well as the state-of-the-art hotel rooms.
The value of this trip cannot be understated. With this in-depth visit, students see themselves as entrepreneurial leaders one day and can envision a life where they too can support the entrepreneurial spirit of their employees.
We are deeply grateful to the Hillman family for making this opportunity available to the Hillman Entrepreneurs!
