Being a student leader is one of the most rewarding parts of my college experience, but it also comes with its challenges. Between classes, meetings, and events, it’s easy for me to feel stretched thin. Over time, I’ve learned that balance isn’t about doing everything, but it’s about doing what matters most and taking care of yourself along the way.
As a Raptor Rep, Phi Theta Kappa President, and Renaissance Scholar, I’ve learned how important it is to manage my time and energy wisely. Each role requires organization, teamwork, and communication, and together they’ve shown me that leadership is just as much about self-awareness as it is about service.
I’ve realized that saying yes to everything isn’t sustainable, and that setting boundaries allows me to show up fully for the commitments that mean the most.
One of my biggest strategies for balance is intentional planning. I schedule time for studying, self-care, and community involvement so that no part of my life gets lost in the busyness. I’ve also learned to lean on others, whether that’s my family, fellow Raptor Reps, PTK officers, or mentors on campus. I’ve started to understand that leadership isn’t about doing it all alone; it’s about knowing when to ask for help and support.
Finding balance will always be a work in progress for me, but it’s one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as a student leader. Each experience teaches me to lead with purpose, patience, and compassion, both for others and for myself.
