https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xOA7dKSThWY Hey! Welcome to my fourth entry at MC Voices, today I will be showing…
When signing up for classes next semester I wanted to tell you about my favorite class here at MC: Spanish. I have taken 3 semesters of Spanish here at MC – from 101 to 201 – and I can’t wait to take 202 next fall!
Because I am a communications major, I have to take a foreign language. When I found that out, I was dreading it. I did not have a good experience with Spanish in high school so taking it at the college level was daunting. Luckily, that fear dissipated the very first day of class. My amazing professor, Carla Naranjo, was so welcoming and understanding; I knew this class would be great and it was/is.
Part of what makes this class so appealing is the work itself. We do a lot of partner work Since some majors at MC require foreign languages, I have been in Spanish class with some of the same people the whole time which is awesome; we are like a little family. Everyone is learning together and works together to understand the Spanish language.
We also do culture projects each semester in Spanish, and they are my favorite part. We get to pick something about the Hispanic culture that we would like to learn more about and make a presentation on it for the class. My topics have ranged from food for the Day of the Dead to feminism in El Salvador. And if you take Spanish 201 with Professor Naranjo, you get to do a classroom exchange with the University of El Salvador.
We got to do a whole class video chat and get to know the students there that are learning English. Then, we each got assigned a student to be “pen pals” with, and we get to chat with them about whatever we want. I love it! I have a new Salvadoran friend that I would have never met without this class.
So if you need to take a foreign language, or an elective (or just for fun!), I recommend taking Spanish here at MC.
Adiós por ahora!
Hola Cassidy,
¡Gracias por haber escrito sobre la clase de español! Me alegro que hayas disfrutado del intercambio cultural con los estudiantes de la Universidad de El Salvador.
Thank you for writing about our Spanish class! I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the cultural exchange with the students from the University of El Salvador! This Global Classrooms project allows students at MC to meet students from another country to learn from each other.
It has been a joy having you in my….3 Spanish classes! You mention that we are like a family and I could not agree more. Montgomery College has wonderful students who support each other in learning and in life. Thanks again for your blog post!
